Generation X Rock Music

Members of Generation X grew up during an incredible time for rock music.  Many of the bands of the 70′s and 80′s are the ones who built the foundation for the rock bands of today.

Growing up, we discovered much of our music through FM radio and MTV.  Nowadays, the music that is the soundtrack to our generation is being discovered by younger generations in the form of video games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band.

The overall landscape for rock music has changed drastically through the years…

  • Vinyl fell out of favor when CD’s came along, but has since returned (albeit in a much smaller way).  Many of us have a collection of vinyl, but no longer have a turntable.
  • For all intents and purposes, CD’s have since been replaced by downloads.
  • The bulky Walkman has been replaced by the nearly weightless iPod.
  • FM radio still exists, but the library of songs that they play is infinitely smaller than that of satellite or Internet radio.

Every generation favors the music that they grew up on, so it should come as no surprise that I believe that the music of Generation X is the best that there ever was.  But that doesn’t mean that there isn’t still great music being made today.

The inspiration to start Generation X Rock Music came to me after listening to a lot of new music on Pandora and satellite radio.

This site my way of creating a place for members of Generation X to discover new music together and reminisce about the music that shaped all of our lives.
